A summer tradition spanning more than four decades, Portumna Water Safety Week is set to return from July 6th to July 13th, 2026, offering swimming lessons, water safety education and lifesaving skills for children and adults alike.

Organised by Galway Water Safety, the popular annual programme has been a fixture in the local community for over 40 years, helping generations of participants build confidence in the water while learning essential safety skills.

The week combines practical instruction with plenty of fun, making it an enjoyable and valuable experience for all ages.

New swimmer assessments will take place on Monday, July 6th at 2pm.

The cost of participation is €30 per student.

Parents and guardians are reminded that a responsible adult must remain present for the duration of all classes attended by their child.

Students taking part in the Safety and Rescue classes should bring a change of clothes suitable for use in the water for both training sessions and assessments.

For information on registration and official sign-up procedures, interested participants should contact the organisers directly at Portumnawatersafety@gmail.com
