Portumna Swim Week Concludes as a Tremendous Success

Portumna Swim Week has concluded as a tremendous success this year, welcoming 68 enthusiastic participants across all skill levels, ranging from Seal 1 to Rescue 3.

The week-long event was boosted by exceptional heatwave weather, creating ideal conditions for local children and youth to develop vital water safety skills, learn, and have fun. Thanks to the generosity of the community, the event successfully raised €2,030. Every cent collected goes directly to Galway Water Safety to fund essential equipment, training, and education programmes across County Galway.

Organisers extended a massive thank you to the dedicated instructor team, including John Jordan, Henry, Aonraoi Mullen, and Emer Durkan, whose expertise and enthusiasm ensured a highly positive and safe experience for all involved.

Special recognition was also given to Galway County Council for providing magnificent local facilities, and to the Beach Lifeguards for their unwavering on-site support throughout the week.

“The cooperation, enthusiasm, and commitment from both parents and children made this one of our most enjoyable Swim Weeks yet,” said an event spokesperson. “We also want to give a special word of thanks to the volunteers who kept everyone refreshed with tea and supplies during the hot weather. Their kindness was deeply appreciated.”

With vital funds raised and high community participation, organisers are already looking forward to welcoming everyone back next year for another safe, educational, and successful Swim Week.
